PROJECT
In a few words …

What?
Unusual, ecological and typical accomadations world tour

Who ?
We are a couple from South of France, passionnate about travels, cultures and sociables discoveries, with both of us already having great travel experience : Vietnam, Laos, Thaïland, Maldive Islands, Canada, Canarian Islands, Madeira, Spain, England, Holland.
Alexandra has worked in differents jobs in the hotel and tourism industry.
Arnaud has worked for 15 years in the hotel and catering industry.

When ?
Departure from France mid march to the beginning of July 2010

Where ?
World tour through New York, Perù, Bolivia, North Argentina, Chile, Easter Island, Polynesia, New Zealand, Sydney and Japan.

How ?
By plane for International flights with Oneworld because these airline companies are commited to the environnement. Otherwise, we will use public transport so we can always respect our ecological and environmental project. That’s why we will do long distances in South America by bus to cross Perù, Bolivia, Argentina and Chili to join Santiago Chile. The same in New Zealand with a bus pass. In Polynesia we will take boats instead of planes and the subway for big cities like New York and Tokyo.

Why?
To realize our dream, to live a unique experience in our lifes, to discover others countries, to share different cultures, to meet new people and experience nature.

THEME

« Unusual, ecological and typical accomodations world tour»

Themed hotels and accomodations are fashionable and original. They offer real experiences with some respecting nature.

Enough of classic, standardized hotels. Do you want something different ? Leave the routine behind ? Have you ever stayed in a jail hotel, a boot hotel, a salt hotel, a capsule hotel, a temple, a tree hotel or couchsurfing ? Let’s go follow our adventure, to discover the worlds most amazing and unusual accomodations.

As well as this fun part, we would also like to focus on the ecological part. Away from these big building complexes, which do not respect the lanscape and nature, we appreciate the use of natural materials, for example the Polynesian bangalows. Let’s bring back typical accomodations, such as family houses.

It was one St VALENTINES night sleeping under a yourtr in PROVENCE that the
idea for this world tour was born. Since working on the project we realized that many hotels were listed in brochures and the internet in France and Europe but not so well listed throughout the rest of the world. this is why we need your support (financial or material) and so let many others of the discovery of these outstanding and amazing lodges.
Our web site http://alexarnoworldtour.e-monsite.com/ will be a strong way of communication and will allow interesred travellers to follow our last developments as a link to our special world tour facebook adress. Look at the special mail to answer to any question, to give practical advices. Regular updates will be done to share the details of our great advebture : stories, pictures, videos ...

A newsletter will be created to resume our new adventures and will indicate the new web links to share our trip.

We will propose after our world tour a picture exposition to tourism and catering schools, as well as to shows, associations or companies interested in.

In conclusion, being our sponsor, you associated the trademark of your company to an ambitious, adventurous and green project (more explanations page 17).

  • The library hotel « Library Hotel » in New York

The Library Hotel New York City is Manhattan's most celebrated concept luxury hotel. Fashioned from a landmark 1900 brick and terra cotta structure, this boutique treasure has been beautifully restored into a small luxury New York City hotel of the highest caliber. An oasis of modern elegance, the Library Hotel in New York and its attentive staff provide a thought provoking experience to sophisticated Midtown Manhattan travelers with a passion for culture and individual expression.

  • The jail hotel“The Liberty Hotel” in Boston

In the realm of hotel architecture, it is hard to imagine a more original design scenario than a hotel carved out of an iconic 19th century jail. But when the city is one as passionate about history as Boston and the structure is none other than the storied Charles Street Jail, the vision of The Liberty Hotel comes sharply into focus.

Built in 1851, the Charles Street Jail was thought to be one of the best examples of the "Boston Granite Style" of the mid-19th century. The hotel's interior design reflects a passionate commitment to authenticity while a more playful attitude defines its day-to-day style.

Within the main building, there are 18 guest rooms, as well as meeting rooms, a grand ballroom and one of the city’s hottest nightlife scenes. Adjacent to a historical gallery of images and tales from the previous 150 years, a 16-story tower houses 280 guest rooms with the latest in luxury linens, amenities and technology, enhanced by expansive views of Boston.

This National Historic Landmark building is one of the country's most stunning and inspired "reuse" developments and sits at the foot of Boston’s historic Beacon Hill neighborhood boutiques.

  • The ecological hotel “Lenox Hotel” in Boston

As the flagship of Saunders Hotel Group's industry-leading effort The Lenox conserves significant precious natural resources, minimizes chemicals and waste, and improves air and water quality in its properties and communities. Recycling in the bedrooms

The Lenox is also proud to offer an entire floor of PURE-Allergy Friendly guest rooms — HEAVEN ON ELEVEN — the only hotel in Boston to do so.

PERU

Located in perus sacred valley and only a train ride from machu picchu- the 84-room country lodge is the site of a 350-year old monastery that has been restored and enlarged with additional guestrooms- a quaint chapel and restaurant. Yucay located in peru s sacred valley and only majestic mountains surround the hotel.

BOLIVIA

  • The salt Hotel « Luna Salada » Uyuni’s desert

The Luna Salada Hotel (Salt Moon Hotel) is one of the most extraordinary hotels of the world. The Hotel had been constructing by salt blocks, in the salt flats of Uyuni in Bolivia. Designed to entertain the visitors in adventure and pleasure trips. The privileged location allows to have the best view of the salt flats, in an absolute harmony and peace atmosphere.

ARGENTINA

  • The green wine hotel “Estancia Colomel” Salta’s area

Few places in the world preserve their natural beauty. Estancia Colome with its 39,000 hectares , is one of these places. Transformed into a luxury rural hotel, Colome offers a unique environment. Estancia Colome is characterized by its beautiful decor, its exceptional organic cuisine and a first class wine-cellar. Before dinner, unwind with a glass of wine, contemplating the majestic view over the 150-year-old vineyards.

  • The green hôtel « Finca Adalgisa » in Mendoza

Finca Adalgisa is an early 20th century manor house and vineyard estate in the heart of the premier wine-growing region of Argentina. It is a charming family home converted in 2001 by Gabriela Furlotti,a third generation Argentine-Italian, into the first boutique hotel and finca in Mendoza.. Member of « Green Hotels ».

CHILE

  • The green hotel «Refugio del Tricahue » in Talca

Lost in the vegetation, in a very quiet place, far from the stress of town and the classical travel ways, this little paradise is reserved for nature lovers in search of authenticity…
The refuge is nestled in Region 7’s foothills where the Maule, Claro, Melado and Tricahue rivers meet. The wood refuge, built in 2004, boasts an idyllic landscape guaranteed to satisfy any nature lover.

POLYNESIA

  • The tree hotel « Tahiti Vanira Lodge » in Tahiti

A different guest house, natural bungalows...

The bungalows are built in traditional polynesian style with walls of stone, bamboo & wood. Some have a pandanus leaves roof. Works of art, these all-natural " fare " create a universe as magic as a child's dream.

  • The tree hotel « Tarariki Village» in Moorea

Tarariki village is a guesthouse, nice architectural example with the funky, thatched tree house perched about 3m up on the beach.

  • Tents bungalows hotel «Fare Ie» in Huahine

It's the original idea of 2 polynesian adventurers who open in Huahine, "FARE IE".

A new type of accomodation on a white sand beach with for bungalows 2 tents of 60 m2 with complete bathroom and terrasse on ocean. The interior is very luxurious and entirely decorated with exotic teak furniture. You will think to be in an "Indiana Jones adventure"!
NEW ZEALAND

  • The boot hotel «The boot» Tasman’s area

When Steve and partner Judy first created The Boot in 2001 they were considered slightly crazy, but after several years history of happy visitors they are rightly taking their place as local celebrities and contributing to the tapestry of attractions and folklore of this inspiring region.

Creating a giant boot guesthouse on a 6 acre property is perhaps the genius of an eccentric, with curved walls and ceilings, everything had to be custom fitted into carefully planned spaces.

  • The hobbit hotel «Woodlyn Park» Waitomo’s area

Not content to play host to merely one of the world’s unusual hotels Woodlyn Park, on New Zealand’s North Island, has three! The Plane Motel—two rooms inside an actual 1950’s Bristol Freighter. The Hobbit Motel looks like Bilbo’s house did in The Lord Of The Rings from the outside, built into a hill and with round windows. The Train Motel is a single suite contained within a 1950’s rail car. Voted by the lonely planet "In the top ten of the most unusual places to stay in the World" !

  • The ecolodge « Wilderness Lodge » in Moreali

The Wilderness Lodge is committed to the protection of the environment. At Wilderness Lodge Lake Moeraki they run their own 37KW hydro-electric generator,  have an active energy efficiency programme, recycle all possible rubbish and work in partnership with the Conservation Department who administer the surrounding World Heritage rainforests.

AUSTRALIA

  • L’hôtel de mise en quarantaine «Q station retreat» à Manly

The four star peaceful retreat is on the site of a former quarantine station.

If you are looking to spend some time with ghosts, Q Station has them in boatloads. Hundreds of people sadly died at the former quarantine station, which operated from the 1830s to 1984, with many buried in its historic cemeteries.

  • The green hotel «Clouthlands Katoomba » in Blue Montains

The Greater Blue Mountains has been listed as a World Heritage area due to its globally outstanding biodiversity and unique eucalypt vegetation. The retreat sits within this, backing onto the National Park. At this Blue Mountains retreat all breakfast foods are sourced locally from local suppliers, with an attempt to provide as many organic products as possible. Breakfast foods are healthy, fresh, vegetarian and rely heavily on our unique small organic sourdough bakeries. The preserved fruit supplied is locally-grown, unsprayed and bottled in spring water. Cleaning is done with environmentally-friendly cleaning agents - citrus cleaner and vinegar and water being among our favourites.

JAPAN

  • Capsule hotels in Tokyo

This style of hotel accommodation was developed in Japan and has not gained acceptance outside of the country. The first capsule hotel was the Capsule Inn Osaka, designed by Kurokawa Kisho and located in the Umeda district of Osaka. It opened on February 1, 1979. A capsule hotel is a hotel system of extremely dense occupancy in Japan. A guest room is truly just a human “capsule” providing room to sleep and little more, although facilities usually include a television and other electronic entertainment. These capsules are then grouped and stacked, two units high.

  • Temples hotels inKyoto or Koyasan

It's possible to visit both historic and remote areas of Japan by staying in one of the hundreds of shukubo, temples or monasteries, which open their doors to foreign visitors wishing to experience a monastic experience firsthand. Guests observe the religious rules, which may include dietary restrictions and meditation or silence during certain periods of the day. The daily schedule at a typical temple fosters calmness and reflection through a relaxed sense of order. The day begins before dawn with sutra chanting, or zazen meditation in the case of Zen temples.

  • Love hotels

Love hotels (also known as boutique or fashion hotels) are hotels that offer double rooms for short periods of time. As the name suggests, the main purpose of love hotels is to provide couples with a room to spend some undisturbed time together. Some love hotels are themed and may come properly equipped, or with items such as costumes available to rent or buy. The reception at a love hotel is very anonymous. The guests usually choose a room on a board by pressing a button and then pay at a little window where the receptionist behind cannot be seen. Love hotels are found all over Japan and they can usually be recognized because of their strange looks. In large cities there are love hotel districts, such as Tokyo's Love Hotel Hill in Shibuya, where many different hotels can be found together. In smaller cities they are often found near major roads on the city outskirts.
OTHERS ACCOMODATIONS : TYPICALS

We will also sleep in several typical accomodations in each country such as guesthouses, camping and the famous couchsurfing to always spend time with local populations and meet people.
