Our next topic is art, architecture and music. Students will have to choose several pieces of work from a French speaking country (France, The French speaking part of Belgium, The French speaking part of Switzerland, Québec, some African countries, etc.). A list will be there to help. Then they will learn how to describe these paintings, sculptures, buildings or songs.

Students will have to do a Photo story presentation with pictures of the art work or youtube links for the song. They will do a voice over for each slide with a full sentence.

Adjectives will be used. Please note that masculine nouns match a masculine adjective. For example:

MASCULINE Le tableau est grand et vert.

FEMININE La sculpture est grande et verte.

Each slide needs four sentences. Here are examples of sentences students can use.

  1. C’est une sculpture moderne/ancienne/contemporaine/intéressante.

This is a modern/ ancient/contemporary/interesting sculpture.

  1. C’est un bâtiment ancien/fonctionnel/immense/grandiose.

This is a ancient/functional/huge/magnificent building.

  1. C’est une chanson gaie/ triste/ entraînante/dansante/poétique/émouvante.

This is a happy/sad/catchy/dancing/poetic/moving song.

  1. Le style de ce tableau fait partie du mouvement impresionniste/cubiste/surréaliste/fauviste.

This painting belongs to the impressionist/cubist, surrealist/ fauvist movement.

  1. Le sujet du tableau est la femme du peintre/le chien du peintre/une forêt.

The subject of this painting is the painter’s wife/ the painter’s dog/ a forest.

  1. Le tableau a été fait en 1899.

The painting was made in 1899.

  1. Le bâtiment a été construit en 1999.

The building has been built in 1999.

  1. La chanson a été écrite en 1999.

The song has been written in 1976

  1. Le bâtiment s’inspire de la forme d’un oiseau.

The building was inspired by the shape of a bird.
