CLIENT TESTIMONIALS: EVENTS / FESTIVALS: Baisakhi Festival – 13 April 2010 Baisakhi is a harvest festival, a Punjabi New Year festival, and commemoration of the founding of the Khalsa (Sikh religion brotherhood) all rolled into one occasion. Baisakhi is celebrated on April 13 every year, and on April 14 once every 36 years. It is celebrated throughout the state of Punjab, particularly in Amritsar. Baisakhi is celebrated with a great deal of feasting, bhangra dancing, folk music, and fairs. The Baisakhi fairs (melas) are organized all over Punjab, and are a festival highlight for many people. Locals dress up in their finest clothes, sings and dance. There are races, wrestling bouts, acrobatics, and folk music. Numerous stalls selling trinkets, handicrafts, and food add to the color. The island is uninhabited. Rare species of birds, orchids and herbs are the sovereigns of this supernal kingdom. It is 17 Kms. east of Mananthavady and 40 kms. north west of Sulthan Bathery. Lakkidi One of the highest locations in Wayanad, Lakkidi also commands picturesque scenery. It is about 58 kms. North east of Kozhikode and five kms. south of Vythiri. Lakkidi, the gate way of Wayanad, lies atop Thamarassery, a ghat pass at an elevation of 700 m. above mean sea level.The lofty mountain peaks, the gurging stream, luxuriant vegetation and the bird's eye view of the deep valley on the south, with its winding roads, are breath taking. East of Sulthan Bathery is located very near to the Karnadaka border. Wild forests covering an area of 345 sq.kms form the Muthanga wild life sanctuary; the biggest abode of wild animals in Malabar. Le pic Chembra, la plus haute colline du Wayanad, se trouve près de la ville de Meppady. Faire du trekking jusqu’à la cime de ce pic prend au moins une journée. Les touristes peuvent également rester un ou deux jours au sommet du pic dans des camps de base. Grotte Edakkal Cet endroit, d’une beauté à couper le soufflé, se trouve à trois kms. d’Ambalavayal, laquelle est à 25 kms. de Kalpetta. La grotte Edakkal dans la montagne Ambukuthy n’est pas à proprement parler une grotte. Ile Kuruva L’île Kuruva s’étend sur 950 acres de forêt toujours verte, sur l’affluent est de la rivière Kabani, endroit idéal pour y piqueniquer, loin de la folie de la vie en ville. L’île n’est pas habitée, si ce n’est par des espèces rares d’oiseaux, d’orchidées et d’herbes, authentiques souverains de ce royaume divin. Il se trouve à 17 kms. au sud de Mananthavady et 40 kms. au nord-ouest de Sulthan Bathery. Lakkidi Un des plus hauts emplacements au Wayanad, Lakkidi offre également une vue des plus pittoresques. Elle se trouve à 58 kms. environ au nord-ouest de Kozhikode et cinq kms. au sud de Vythiri. Lakkidi, la porte d’entrée au Wayanad, s’étend au sommet du Thamarassery, passage élevé à 700 ms. au-dessus du niveau de la mer. Les imposants sommets de la montagne, le clapotis des cours d’eau, la végétation luxuriante et le regard des oiseaux sur la vaste vallée au sud, avec ses routes sinueuses, coupent le souffle. Le voyage d’Adivaram à Lakkidi, de 12 kms. de distance, au travers de ce passage, avec ses neufs virages en épingle à cheveu, au milieu de forêts épaisses, est une expérience fascinante. Sanctuaire Vie Sauvage de Muthanga Muthanga, à 16 kms. au sud de Sulthan Bathery, est situé tout près de la frontière Karnadaka. Les forêts sauvages, couvrent une surface de 345 mètres carrés, délimitent le sanctuaire dévouée à la vie sauvage; la plus grande réserve d’animaux sauvages à Malabar. Eléphants, cerfs tachetés, bisons, tigres, singes, ours sauvages, etc. ont fait du sanctuaire leur demeure.
